Jermaine Clement and Bret McKenzie are reuniting for a Flight of the Conchords film.

The New Zealand born twosome - who referred to themselves as "New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo" - have confirmed that the script is in the early stages.

Clement announced the news during an interview to promote his upcoming film People Places Things.

When asked if he believes fans will ask him for a Flight of the Conchords film for the rest of his life, he told Indiewire: “We have actually started writing one.

“But who knows if it will ever be made, we've written some notes for some different film ideas.

“We're not down to the stage where we're going, ‘The film is going to be like this,’ it could be this, this, this, this, this.”

The cult comedy show ran for two seasons on HBO before finishing in 2009.

The duo teased at a possible tour for 2015 during an interview earlier this year.

"We are hoping to announce a tour," Clement told Consequence Of Sound. "We’ll announce it before the end of the year, hopefully, and then some time next year get on the road... after we get some new guitar strings and that sort of thing."

The band last toured Australia in 2012.
