Window pain for Rangers

Ian Holloway today revealed he could be looking to sign as many as 10 new players this summer.

The Queens Park Rangers manager insists his hands are tied by the transfer window system, which will be adopted by the Coca-Cola Championship next season.

If, as expected, he decides to release the six players who are out of contract at the end of the season, he will be left with a first-team squad of just 14 players.

He said: "I might need another 10 players. I'm going to need utility players in all positions who can play here, there and everywhere. Players like Georges Santos and Matthew Rose are going to be vital."

Holloway has already begun scouting home and abroad for new talent.

He said: "I will sieve through millions of agents who are ringing me convinced their players are the best players on the planet. Hopefully I can go abroad and use our contacts to pick up some players."

Holloway fiercely opposes the transfer window system, which includes loan deals as well as permanent moves. He said: "Whoever brought the rule in needs to sit down and look at themselves. It is making my job impossible. How can you tell who is going to get injured or suspended before January?

"It's all right saying you are going to rely on your youngsters. But if they are not physically and mentally ready it could ruin their careers. It is very delicate."
