White facing long lay-off

12 April 2012

Scotland captain Jason White is to undergo reconstructive surgery on his right knee and could be out for nine months.

The Sale Sharks back-row forward was injured during the 48-6 Autumn Test victory over Romania nine days ago.

Scotland doctor James Robson said: "Following consultation today (Monday) with orthopaedics specialist Dai Rees it has been decided that Jason will require repair to his anterior cruciate ligament."

He added: "That operation will take place next week. Following that, Jason will embark on an intensive rehabilitation programme with his club."

Scotland coach Frank Hadden added: "We wish Jason all the best in his recovery."

Meanwhile, Johnnie Beattie can expect to be sidelined for around six weeks after sustaining ankle ligament damage against the Pacific Islands at the weekend.
