Welcome half-century for Strauss

12 April 2012

Andrew Strauss hit only his second half-century in 16 Test innings as England raced along in reply to West Indies' 287 at Chester-le-Street.

Opener Strauss cracked a flurry of early boundaries, but Alastair Cook perished to a leg-side strangle as England progressed to 82 for one in the 19th over.

Earlier, Shivnarine Chanderpaul made Ian Bell pay for dropping him on nine by hitting his second unbeaten century in a row during this npower series, and 16th of his Test career.

A dogged last-wicket stand with Corey Collymore of 58 extended Chanderpaul's time at the crease beyond 20 hours in four innings against England this summer.

Left-arm spinner Monty Panesar finally culminated the innings when Collymore was trapped leg before by a quicker ball.
