Wasps have announced the signing of Samoa prop Sakaria Taulafo.

Taulafo, whose most recent Test appearance was as a substitute against Italy in November, has agreed terms with the Guinness Premiership club until 2011.

He played for Tasman in this season's Air New Zealand Cup and will feature in Wasps' match-day squad for their Premiership clash against Newcastle at Adams Park on Sunday.

"I see Wasps as the Manchester United of European rugby with a long history of success both in the United Kingdom and Europe," Taulafo said.

"I love winning, and playing for Wasps will give me the chance to experience scrummaging against some of the best props in the world.

"I have worked so hard to get here, and now I am ready to work even harder to take my game to another level."

Wasps rugby director Tony Hanks added: "For us, it is great to bring a player of his quality in this season while we are experiencing some injuries in the front row.

"But even more so, to be able to secure him for next season as he signs an 18-month contract. He is a big powerful prop who is mobile around the field."
