Warnock set for Eagles

12 April 2012

Neil Warnock is expected to be unveiled as the new Crystal Palace manager this morning.

The former Sheffield United manager is set to step back into management 148 days after quitting Bramall Lane after the club's relegation from the Premier League. Warnock's name had been linked with the Selhurst Park post even before Peter Taylor was sacked on Monday after chairman Simon Jordan lost patience.

Earlier this week Jordan said: "I like Peter but we needed a change. I don't want to waste another season. We need an injection of something and someone like Neil Warnock will give us that. He is a winner and I am a winner."

The Eagles are a lowly 19th in the Coca-Cola Championship with 10 points from their opening 10 matches, with that abject form coming on the back of a disappointing mid-table finish last term.

Palace will become Warnock's ninth club and the 58-year-old will be attempting to add to the six promotions on his CV.

Warnock led Scarborough into the Football League in 1989, achieved back-to-back promotions with Notts County and also took Huddersfield and Plymouth up via the play-offs.

He took over at Sheffield United in 1999 and, after some near misses, finally guided them into the Premier League in 2006.

The Blades were relegated on the final day of the season but Warnock impressed during their one-year stint in the top flight, and his stock has since risen further given their struggles without him in the Championship.

Former Manchester City and England defender Keith Curle has been linked with a role on the coaching staff at Selhurst Park, where Kit Symons is currently in caretaker charge.
