Warnock’s plea over Beattie

13 April 2012

Striker Craig Beattie will be staying at Crystal Palace until January if manager Neil Warnock gets his way after he scored the winner over Charlton at Selhurst Park.

Beattie, making his home debut, headed in Ben Watson's cross after 63 minutes.

The Scot is on loan from West Brom for one month but has hinted he would be interested in staying.

Warnock said: "[West Brom boss] Tony Mowbray has been great to let us have him.

"You don't get many Premier League strikers going out now that they can have seven substitutes. But I'm hoping we can have him for three months.

"He has fitted in well and given us something we haven't had."

Palace dominated this Championship encounter and Warnock is confident that the draw at Ipswich on Saturday, added to last night's 1-0 win, bodes well for the future.

He said: "The players had a chat among themselves before we played Ipswich and have taken everything on board.

"We are at the wrong end of the table but remember we have played Preston, Wolves and Reading away from home and other teams still have to do that."

Charlton manager Alan Pardew may have been given a vote of confidence by his board yesterday but his side lacked imagination.

"We need to win another game as soon as possible," he said. "I need to analyse this game. Some of the players have not been at their best but they have given everything."
