Wales worry over Thomas

12 April 2012

Gareth Thomas is a major doubt for next Saturday's final autumn international against New Zealand at the Millennium Stadium.

The 90-times capped full-back suffered a twisted knee in the 61-26 victory over Canada in Cardiff on Friday night.

"He will be scanned and we'll know more on Sunday night when we come back into camp," confirmed Wales coach Gareth Jenkins. "It doesn't look like he will make it at the moment but we are trying to remain positive. The concern is that in twisting the knee he has opened up the joint, but to what degree we don't know."

He added: "By Monday morning we will know more as far as selection is concerned.

"Gareth is a key player in our environment, not just on the field, but in the team environment. It would be huge if he wasn't available."

Thomas picked up the knee problem early in the Canada match but managed to play through it.

Wales could also be without both Gavin Henson and captain Stephen Jones.

Henson is on antibiotics after missing the Canada game with an infected toe, but Jones is potentially a more serious concern as he recovers from the knee ligament damage he suffered against Australia a fortnight ago.
