Wales star bids to take 'a big scalp'

13 April 2012

Wales will target an overdue TriNations scalp tomorrow, with flanker Martyn Williams admitting it is about taking "the next step".

Wales have won the Six Nations' Grand Slam titles twice in the last four years but their record against South Africa, New Zealand and Australia is abysmal.

They have beaten the Springboks once in 102 years, last defeated the All Blacks 55 years ago and have just one win in 20 years against Australia.

Ahead of the Test against South Africa at the Millennium Stadium, Williams said: "People are looking now not just for us to compete but to go up a notch and take a big scalp.

"We have got to try to beat one of the three big southern hemisphere teams now so that we can take the next step. There will be a great atmosphere and everyone is really excited about the match."
