Walden stuns Selby

12 April 2012

Qualifier Ricky Walden staged a brilliant comeback to beat Mark Selby and book his place in Sunday's Roewe Shanghai Masters final.

The Flintshire potter, the world number 35, battled back from 4-1 down to stun fellow Englishman Selby 6-4 at the Shanghai Grand Stage.

He will face either world champion and world number one Ronnie O'Sullivan or Stephen Maguire, the world number two, in Sunday's best-of-17 frame showcase final.

"I'm thrilled to bits to be in my first final but it was a real struggle out there," said Walden.

"I had a bit of luck, but then I've had plenty of bad luck over my career so I think it evens itself out.

"I'm not bothered who I face. Stephen is a good friend of mine so it would be good to play him, but Ronnie is the best in the world, so I don't mind.

"To be honest, for three years in my head I've been expecting to come to events and win them, so it's good to get to a final at last."
