Van Basten for Chelsea, Jol for Holland?

Chelsea bound? Marco van Basten
13 April 2012

Marco van Basten will not discuss a new contract with the Dutch FA until November.

The Holland coach will be a free agent next summer and has emerged as a candidate to take charge at Chelsea when Avram Grant's rein ends.

He has agreed to leave negotiations until after their Euro 2008 qualification campaign and that could pave the way for him to quit after the last game on 21 November.

Holland are in second place in Group G and should go through to next year's finals.

Pressure on Van Basten was relieved by recent results but the Dutch FA are big admirers of Martin Jol, whose time at Tottenham looks close to being over. Van Basten sat behind Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich at Old Trafford yesterday as Manchester United beat Grant's side 2-0.

He is thought to have the approval of Guus Hiddink, who met Abramovich two weeks ago when he was in London with Russia. The Dutch FA knew about Van Basten's trip to Old Trafford and claimed he was there to check on Edwin van der Sar, the 36-year-old United goalkeeper.
