Unlucky Gitano misses Lincoln

13 April 2012

Due to the popularity of the race, leading fancy Lucky Gitano has missed out on a run in Saturday's Lincoln Handicap after being eliminated at today's final declaration stage.

With a maximum of 24 runners John Dunlop's charge, quoted as short as 9-1 by the Tote for the Doncaster handicap, has just failed to make the cut. Instead he will run in tomorrow's Randombet.com Spring Mile, the consolation race for horses eliminated from the Lincoln.

Last year's winner John Ferneley, who had an alternative engagement in Saturday's Cammidge Trophy, will attempt to become the first horse since Babur in 1958 to win the race in successive years.

The six-year-old, along with stable-mate Mastermind, will also try to give trainer Lynda Ramsden a big-race winner on her return to training in Britain.
