Staying put: Andrei Arshavin scores Russia's third goal during the Euro 2008 quarter-final against Holland

's bid to sign Andrei Arshavin has been rejected once and for all by Zenit St Petersburg.

The 27-year-old Russia forward had been keen to play for Spurs following a conversation with manager Juande Ramos but a fee was not agreed with Zenit, who refused to budge on their £20million valuation.

A statement from Zenit read: "(Spurs) had until August 18 to send their proposals. These proposals have not been received.

"Given the deadline has expired and the uncertainty of the situation does not allow the club to find a replacement for Andrei Arshavin, Zenit considers the possibility of transfering the player to Tottenham closed."
