European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn says Tiger Woods’ resurgence is ‘phenomenal’ for the tournament.

The Danish captain will go head-to-head with his American counterpart, Jim Furyk, in France next week with Woods one of the captain’s picks for the defending side.

Woods has come further than anyone would have expected following back fusion surgery in April 2017, contending at two of the year’s major championships before making his first Ryder Cup team since 2012.

While it may add some complication for Bjorn, he’s delighted to see the 42-year-old back on golf’s biggest stage.

"It's remarkable that he is back to the levels he's playing at and I think it's fantastic, it's great for the game of golf, it's phenomenal for the Ryder Cup in France," Bjorn told CNN.

"I probably never really thought that he would get back to these levels.

"I thought it looked like it was going to be a struggle and he's again shown that he's pretty unique.”

Bjorn added: "As a golf fan I'm delighted to see him back where he is because he means so much to the game of golf and to what this sport is, so it's brilliant to see him back."

The Ryder Cup begins on September 28, at Le Golf National just outside of Paris.
