Thumbs up for Newcastle game

Newcastle's Barclays Premiership clash with Liverpool on Saturday afternoon has been given the go ahead after a pitch inspection.

Referee Mark Halsey inspected the playing surface at St James' Park at 1.15pm as torrential rain continued to fall on Tyneside.

The official signalled his intention to get the game under way after deciding the pitch was playable.
