Bury boss Chris Casper has launched a stinging attack on the Football Association after they upheld their decision to throw the club out of the FA Cup.

The League Two side were expelled after admitting fielding an ineligible player, on-loan Hartlepool midfielder Stephen Turnbull, in the 3-1 second-round replay win over Chester.

Bury's appeal was rejected after an FA hearing and Chester will face Ipswich in the third round instead.

Casper said: "We're disappointed, angry and frustrated. We had a strong case and we've been treated the same as a team that didn't own up to it and tried to hide their mistake. If that's justice, the FA can keep their justice."

Bury will lose £24,000 in prizemoney and their 45 per cent of gate receipts.

Baggies move for Kiely

Dean Kiely is in line for a shock move to West Bromwich Albion in the transfer window.

Albion manager Tony Mowbray wants to put pressure on Russell Hoult and has offered the former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper the chance to quit Portsmouth.

Kiely has been unhappy at Fratton Park since losing his spot to former England keeper David James and has been on loan at Luton Town in a bid to resurrect his career.

O'Neill keeps eye on Palace

Martin O'Neill is again scouring the loan market for an emergency keeper after Crystal Palace warned the Aston Villa boss they may recall on-loan Gabor Kiraly.

Palace keeper Julian Speroni missed the Boxing Day trip to Southampton with a groin injury and Scott Flinders deputised. If a scan on Speroni confirms a long-term problem, Hungarian Kiraly will return.

Line through Artis

Steve Artis, the assistant referee who flagged for a non-existent handball by Charlton's Djimi Traore during the 2-2 draw against Fulham on Wednesday, can expect to be taken off his next appointment as a result.

Artis, in his first year on the Premiership list, was due to run the line at the Luton-Cardiff Championship game on New Year's Day.

Andy Halliday might also miss out on Liverpool-Bolton after incorrectly ruling that Pepe Reina had handled the ball outside his area when the teams met at the Reebok in September.

Edwards deal on hold

Sunderland have bid £1million for Luton midfielder Carlos Edwards, although Luton manager Mike Newell is stalling in the hope other sides will express an interest.

Edwards, who has 52 caps for Trinidad & Tobago, is also interesting Portsmouth and Birmingham. Sunderland manager Roy Keane, who will sign Manchester United pair Jonny Evans and Phil Bardsley on loan this week, has received rave reviews on Edwards from Trinidad captain Dwight Yorke.
