The changing of the guard at Palace

14 April 2012
  • After Steve Coppell left (a 'joint decision'), Simon Jordan said: "We felt a change at the top was necessary."
  • After sacking Alan Smith, Jordan said: "I support someone until they are unsupportable. I feel we've gone as far as we can."
  • When Steve Bruce joined on a three-year deal, Jordan said: "I see this club as a Stealth Bomber in that people will not spot us coming and we might be a good bet for the First Division title."
  • Bruce left for Birmingham (Trevor Francis moved in the opposite direction) and Jordan was furious at him for leaving and refused to accept his resignation. He said: "Personally, I'm very disappointed having given Steve this significant opportunity to re-establish his reputation."
  • Francis signed a four-year deal and Jordan said: "I'm just fortunate one of the best managers in the country became available."
  • Francis was sacked after failing to convince Jordan he could take them into the Premiership. Jordan said: "I'm totally committed to playing in the Premier League and will ensure any new manager can achieve this."
  • Steve Kember is appointed and Jordan defended the decision amid accusations of taking the 'cheap' option. He said: "I believe Steve has the right credentials to give this club what it requires."
  • In the past, Jordan has said: "If you look at my track record, I am very committed to my managers."
