The boo-boys from Brazil

13 April 2012

Brazil's football president said today that the team deserved to be booed off the field after drawing 1-1 at home to Peru in a World Cup qualifier.

A 50,000 crowd jeered the team, hurled flags on to the pitch in protest and chanted "Ole" as Peru passed the ball around during the game in Sao Paulo.

Brazilian Football Confederation president Ricardo Teixeira said today: "If I had been on the terraces, I would have done the same thing. I thought it was a horrible game."

Brazil dropped to fourth in the group, below Argentina, Paraguay and Ecuador. The top four qualify for next year's finals.

Meanwhile, West Ham's Glen Johnson scored the goal that earned England's youngsters a 1-0 victory over Hungary and secured a place in the quarter-finals of the European Under-16 Championships.

Scotland captain Colin Hendry has been suspended for six internationals and fined £4,000 for elbowing Nicola Albani in last month's World Cup qualifier with San Marino.
