Unseeded Brit Cameron Norrie stunned ninth-seed Diego Schwartzman on day one of the US Open, coming back from two sets down to claim victory in a five-set thriller

The world No76 stayed competitive but fell deservedly two sets behind before a dramatic comeback saw the 25-year-old take it 3-6 4-6 6-2 6-1 7-5 at Flushing Meadows.

In a quite remarkable match, in which there were 58 break points - a US Open record - Norrie saved two match points in the deciding set before outlasting a tiring Schwartzman in a tie that lasted just under four hours.

Norrie will face another Argentinian in 103rd-ranked Federico Coria in the second round after an impressive win over the two-time US Open quarter-finalist.

"The first two sets I was rushing everything and going for too much. I didn't feel myself out there," Norrie told Amazon Prime after the match.

"I felt he had done almost nothing to be two-sets-to-love up. I wanted to hit the ball down the middle, get some rhythm and then I kept the momentum going.

"The tennis and the level wasn't that great but I had a good attitude throughout and I was happy with that.

"I'm lucky to get through that one. It was a tough one."
