Andy Murray has said he will withdraw from the Australian Open if his wife goes into early labour.

The first Grand Slam of the year runs from January 18 to the end of the month, with Murray's wife Kim due around two weeks after the scheduled final in Melbourne.

Four times a losing finalist at the Australian Open, Murray is yet to add the major to his two Grand Slam successes but says he would not consider missing the birth of his first child to achieve that goal.

Asked what he'd do if his wife went into labour during the tournament, the Scot said: "I'm going to fly home.

"I'd be way more disappointed winning the Australian Open and not being at the birth of the child."

Murray was speaking after mixed doubles victory over France in the Hopman Cup.

The 28-year-old and Heather Watson won the deciding mixed doubles rubber on a tie-break as Great Britain started their campaign with a 2-1 victory against France.

Murray was successful in his singles tie with Kenny De Schepper but Heather Watson's three-set defeat to Caroline Garcia ensured the doubles would be pivotal.

And the British pair prevailed after recovering from a second-set wobble to win 6-2 5-7 10-6.
