Taylor praise for former boss Coleman

Maik Taylor today insisted that Fulham have improved considerably this season under the guidance of Chris Coleman.

The former Craven Cottage goalkeeper, who was instrumental in rescuing a point for Birmingham in Saturday's 0-0 draw, has been impressed by how Coleman has taken to management.

Taylor said: "Fulham have had a fantastic season and I'm really pleased because at the start of the season everyone thought they would be fighting relegation.

"Cookie (Coleman) has inherited some decent players but he has done a great job in getting them all together and creating that team spirit that was kind of lost towards the end of Jean Tigana's reign. Credit to them, they get it down and try and play some good football.

"The players were low at the end of last season but Cookie came in and brought a smile to the players' faces."

Taylor is not surprised that his former boss has adjusted so well to the rigours of management.

He added: "Cookie has got such an amazing character that inspires real respect within the dressing room. He has an aura about him and the lads look up to him. A lot of people were questioning him over his first managerial role and he's proved them all wrong."

Taylor, who joined sixth-placed Birmingham from Fulham for £1.5million two weeks ago after a successful loan spell at St Andrews, said he is happy how things have worked out under manager Steve Bruce.

The 32-year-old said: "The main thing is that I'm playing regularly. It's no disrespect to Fulham, but they are not big enough club to justify keeping me on the bench."
