Swann eager to turn the screw

Off-spinner Graeme Swann has warned that England will aim to maintain their ruthless streak in the upcoming one-day international series against India.

The tourists have been well beaten since arriving in England two months ago. A 4-0 Test series whitewash, which saw India surrender their number one status to England, was followed by a six-wicket defeat in Wednesday night's one-off Twenty20 in Manchester.

"The summer has gone great for us so far and we'll be hoping to carry that on into the one-day series," said Swann. "It's not our place to feel sympathy for the opposition. You've just got to turn up and play your best and win and we're enjoying doing that. It's a better feeling winning than losing."

He added: "We've got ourselves into a place where India are under pressure. The Indian press are starting to be a bit negative about their own team, which is out of our control.

"We just want to keep playing the way we are, long may it continue, because we know they are a world-class side."

Following England's rise to the top of the Test rankings last month team director Andy Flower revealed he was now targeting the 50-over format for world dominance.

A series win against the world champions would offer an obvious stepping stone in that direction - a fact not lost on Swann.

"That is where we want to go in one-day cricket," Swann added.

"This is the perfect chance to start.

"They have had problems on tour but we certainly won't take them lightly at all. They are a world-class team. We will have to be at our absolute best to beat them."
