Spurs seek Scot to shore up defence

13 April 2012

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Glasgow Rangers right back Alan Hutton.

The defender has impressed during Scotland's recent resurgence and could replace the unsettled Pascal Chimbonda as Juande Ramos seeks to improve Tottenham's appalling defensive record this season.

Making an impression: Alan Hutton (centre) has made a name for himself with a series of good performances for club and country

Spurs sporting director Damien Comolli is said to have been particularly impressed by Hutton on recent trips north of the border, according to The Observer.

After 12 matches this season Spurs are conceding on average exactly two goals a game - a simple fact clearly unacceptable to the new coach.

Error-prone goalkeeper Paul Robinson is another player under threat while the ongoing absence of captain Ledley King has made the centre of defence also a priority.
