Spurs facing anger over Calum claims

Tottenham were today facing a backlash from Coventry over suggestions that new signing Calum Davenport could be loaned out.

The 21-year-old centre-back signed for Spurs this week in a £3million deal but reports that he could be sent to another Championship side for the rest of the season have angered Coventry chairman Mike McGinnity.

He said: "We asked Tottenham to let us have him back on loan ourselves until the end of the season and they said 'no', so what can we do?

"If this is correct then I find it absolutely diabolical. Once Tottenham have bought him he is their player.

"But we certainly won't be happy if Calum goes out on loan somewhere else."

Davenport played his last game for Coventry on Monday, putting in an impressive display in their 2-1 win over West Ham.

Coventry had been reluctant to sell Davenport but he would have been out of contract at the end of the season and would not sign a new contract offered by the Midlands club.
