World's biggest McDonald's for London 2012

5 April 2012

McDonald's will open its biggest ever restaurant in Stratford for London 2012.

The burger giant, an Olympic sponsor since 1976, today revealed that it plans to open a "supersize" two-storey branch near the Olympic stadium.

The 3,000 sq m Central Restaurant will be one of four around the site, one of which will be in the athletes' village.

The world's biggest McDonald's expects to serve 50,000 Big Macs and 180,000 portions of fries over the 29 days of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and 470 staff will make 30,000 milkshakes.

Fast food has been blamed for some health problems but despite the efforts of Government ministers to reduce booming obesity levels, the company's profits in the UK leapt 38 per cent last year to nearly £160 million.
