1. Chris has over 16 years' of athletics experience competing in the long and triple jump as a junior with international honours.
2. He has broken his arm three times, his collar bone, cracked a rib and broken a toe in three places. He also broke both wrists in a freak weight training accident.
3. Chris holds the current British Indoor and Outdoor record in the long jump, after a leap of 8.35m at the Diamond League meeting in Paris last year.
4. He has competed in two Olympic games, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, but remains undecorated. He finished fifth in Athens, and after jumping 7.70m failed to make the final in Beijing but feels London 2012 could be his year.
5. Chris and his actress wife Lucia Rovardi have a four-month-old son, Raphael. But he missed much of his son’s early life to train for the Olympics. He said: “For the first four or five months of my son's life I’m not going to be around as much as I'd like, but these are the sacrifices you have to make.”
6. Tomlinson arrived on the athletics scene with a bang when he broke Lynn Davies's 34-year-old British Long Jump record aged just 20, jumping 8.27m.
7. If Chris hadn’t been a long jumper, he would have been a professional golfer and,when not training, spends his summer months on the golf course.
8. His perfect meal would be a goats' cheese salad, followed by a rare rib eye steak and finished with a cheesecake for dessert.
9. Tomlinson was given an Honorary doctorate in education by the University of East London in 2010.
10. After starting 2012 ranked 12th, Tomlinson is now ranked 7th in the world.
