Snedeker tied by Buckle

12 April 2012

Brandt Snedeker and Andrew Buckle are tied for the lead in the Buick Invitational, with both men on 11 under par - two shots ahead of Tiger Woods.

Woods, who is seeking a seventh consecutive US Tour win, went into Saturday's round tied for 12th place but now lies in joint fourth after shooting a three-under-par 69 and making birdies at the fourth, sixth and seventh holes.

Snedeker's form deserted him somewhat as he made a two-over-par 74 but his early form in the competition means the tour rookie is still very much in the frame.

Australian Buckle stormed into contention with a four-under round of 68, while Kevin Sutherland is one stroke behind the leading pair overnight, with his two-under-par 70 leaving him on 10 under for tournament.

Joining Woods on nine under are Troy Matteson, Bill Haas and Charles Howell.

Howell was particularly unlucky having kept in touch with the leaders for much of the day before a missed four-foot putt on the 17th saw him fall back into the pack.

Howell, who narrowly missed forcing Woods into a play-off in the 2005 tournament, admitted he was disappointed not to have made more of a push but insisted he can still win.

"In 2005 I gave it [the Buick Invitational] a heck of a run," said Howell.

"I wish I could have done better, but I have a chance and that's all I can ask for."

"Someone told me once a long time ago that golf owes you nothing and I think that statement probably holds true."
