Six points to secure Sussex's title

Sussex are aiming to finish with a flourish this week and land their first championship in style.

Chris Adams and his team need six points from the home game against Leicestershire and a draw should secure a prize which has eluded the county for the previous 103 summers.

But while Sussex remain hot favourites despite their weekend defeat by Lancashire at Old Trafford, coach Peter Moores believes a safety-first approach at Hove on Wednesday is neither in their nature nor their best interests.

"We don't need to win this game, just produce a solid performance, but I think the key for us will be to try to win it," Moores said.

"We've done well this season through playing aggressive cricket and trying to be positive - and I don't see any reason to change that."

A draw at Old Trafford would have clinched the title but Lancashire beat Sussex by an innings and 19 runs and are now the only side capable of taking the title from Hove.

They must win well against Notts at Trent Bridge this week and hope relegated Leicestershire help them out on the south coast.

Sussex had won seven of their last nine championship matches, and drawn the other two, until losing to Lancashire. "The main thing is we've got another game and hopefully we can do the business," added Moores.
