Silverstone gets green light

The immediate future of the British Grand Prix has been secured after world governing body, the FIA, gave its blessing to improvements at Silverstone.

The Northamptonshire circuit has been blighted with traffic problems in recent years, with the future of Formula One in Britain placed in doubt after rain wreaked havoc in 2000.

The FIA had demanded a £3.4 million bond to guarantee improvements to access roads be put in place in time for this year's race on 7 July.

But after Government intervention Silverstone's £10million programme was completed on time and the FIA has now returned the bond with president Max Mosley declaring himself happy with the improvements.
