Sharp hails mighty Giants

12 April 2012

Wigan reject Kevin Brown inspired Huddersfield Giants to a 20-12 triumph which guaranteed new Super League club Catalan Dragons' final home game of the season ended in disappointment.

Brown outshone Kiwi superstar Stacey Jones to play a part in all four of the visitors' tries, in a performance which left Giants coach Jon Sharp "delighted".

It was a victory Huddersfield thoroughly deserved as they chalked up an 11th win of the campaign.

The Giants led 10-6 after a tight opening period.

Robbie Paul gave them the lead with a try converted by Michael De Vere before the Dragons hit back with a Justin Murphy score, goaled by Laurent Frayssinous.

But just before the break, Chris Nero sprinted 50 metres to score in the corner.

The contest remained just as tight during the third quarter with Dragons' Julien Rinaldi cancelling out a Stuart Donlan effort.

The Giants, however, finished the stronger with Martin Aspinwall capitalising on a Brad Drew kick to the corner to seal the victory.

Sharp said: "I was delighted with the way the players went about this very tough task. Catalans threw an awful lot at us but we stood up to the pressure superbly and thoroughly deserved the win.

"This victory puts us in an excellent mood for our final home game of the season when we play Bradford next Sunday."
