Sergio closes on fifth title

13 April 2012

Sergio Garcia is taking nothing for granted despite an opening round of 66 in the rain-delayed Mallorca Classic.

As the only player in the world's top 65 competing in the event, Garcia is 3-1 favourite to win his fifth European Tour title.

"That's Tiger territory," he joked after claiming a share of the clubhouse lead with fellow Spaniard Carlos Rodiles.

England's Simon Khan was one of 60 players forced to return to Pula Golf Club to complete their first rounds today due to thunderstorms. The Wales Open winner was five under par with five holes to play.

"I didn't come here thinking this is a done deal," Garcia said. "That's not the way to go. Everybody here can play the game of golf and I think the field is better than some might think."

Rodiles was in contention for a Ryder Cup place until a rib injury ruled him out for almost three months earlier this season, but has two top-10 finishes in his last four events.
