Andy Farrell accepts he could be put in a difficult position if his son Owen is called up by England for the defence of their Six Nations title.

At club level he has seen his 20-year-old son graduate into an established first-team player. The Saracens utility back helped his side to the Premiership title last season and is now pushing for a place in the national squad, which will be announced next month.

"I want England to win and if Owen is playing well enough he will be considered like everybody else," said Farrell, who won eight caps and played at the 2007 World Cup.

"He is part of the pool of exciting talent and between now and the start of the Six Nations, there are a lot of big games and that pool of youngsters has to be able to back it up in those games because it doesn't get much bigger than a Six Nations game at Twickenham."

The 36-year-old will work alongside team manager Stuart Lancaster and forwards coach Graham Rowntree as the Rugby Football Union continue their search for long-term replacements for team manager Martin Johnson and backs coach Brian Smith.

Farrell knows, though, he is not in the running for a full-time role and said: "I have just been loaned out for a couple of months."
