Dave Strettle returns for England

Talking shop: Dave Strettle and Stuart Lancaster in Paris, where the wing was unable to play
15 March 2012

Dave Strettle has recovered from injury to play against Ireland on Saturday and is the only change from the England team who beat France.

The Saracens wing damaged his sternum in the build-up to last Sunday’s match in Paris where his place was taken by Charlie Sharples, who was yellow carded during the 24-22 victory.

With Strettle now fit, Sharples drops out of the match squad for Twickenham and there is also one change among the replacements with Bath’s Lee Mears coming in for London Wasps hooker Rob Webber, who has a shoulder injury.

England have made history by winning all three away games in this season’s Six Nations to give themselves a slim chance of winning the title.

The match constitutes interim head coach Stuart Lancaster’s last chance to impress the men who will choose the successor to Martin Johnson, who resigned after the team’s poor World Cup.

Lancaster said: “It seems like yesterday when we got together in Leeds in January and began a new journey for England rugby. Graham Rowntree, Andy Farrell, and myself firmly believe in this group of players and the direction we are going. Saturday is another step on that road and we’re looking forward to coming home to a packed Twickenham with its special atmosphere and crowd. Their support has been phenomenal.”

To retain their title England need a big win and hope France then inflict a huge defeat on Wales.

France coach Phillipe Saint‑Andre has made five changes and one positional switch for the match in Cardiff.

Prop David Attoub is in for Nicolas Mas, hooker Dimitri Szarzewski has been dropped for William Servat and scrum-half Julien Dupuy is replaced by Dimitri Yachvili.

Vincent Clerc is injured so Wesley Fofana moves to wing. Florian Fritz takes Fofana’s place at centre, with a start also handed to wing Alexis Palisson in place of Julien Malzieu.
