Rooney wants Gerrard at United

12 April 2012

Wayne Rooney has hailed England team-mate Steven Gerrard as one of the world's best midfielders and wishes the Liverpool star could play at Manchester United.

Gerrard's form has been questioned since Liverpool suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss to Rooney's United at Old Trafford on Sunday but the striker has no doubts over his class.

Rooney, who turned 21 today, said: "He's probably the driving force at Liverpool and he is one of the best midfielders in the world. I'd love to see him come to United but I don't think that will ever happen!"

He added: "I can't really describe him because there isn't another player like him. I think if Liverpool lost him they wouldn't be half the team they are with him."
