Robinson plays down Bath rumours

Andy Robinson has reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his contract as head coach of Scotland following reports linking him with a return to Bath.

After overseeing a run of five wins in six Tests, Robinson has been linked with a return to The Rec with Bath, a team for which he made 249 appearances in 13 seasons and led to the Heineken Cup as coach in 1998. But Robinson is under contract with the Scottish Rugby Union until after the 2012 RBS 6 Nations Championship.

"There's obviously been some speculation around myself, but I've got a contract to 2012," he said.

"There's a long time until that contract's up. People have things to write and they're prepared to write it. If there's an announcement to be made it will be made. Currently there's nothing to say."

Robinson, who divides his time between Edinburgh and Bath, is aware the Bath speculation is inevitable, but he is concentrating on the job in hand with Scotland.

He added: "I'm an ex-player, I still live in Bath. I'm an ex-coach of the club. I have huge respect for the club and what it's about. Ian McGeechan (Bath performance director), I've a lot of respect for him as a person and a coach.

"Andrew Brownsword laid the foundations for professional rugby and gave the club real stability, which can be expected to be taken on to another level by Bruce and his involvement.

"Obviously people know the connections with Bruce and myself at university. But I'm contracted to Scotland and that's what my focus is on."

Robinson is unsure what the future holds beyond his current contract with the SRU and the former England coach said: "If you look back to 2004, 2005, who would have predicted that I'd be coaching Scotland? Who would have said I would have come to Edinburgh and did what I did?

"You don't know. It's a professional game and I have tremendous support from my family. Without that I wouldn't be able to be the Scotland head coach."
