Ricardo: Becks isn't really a Martian

13 April 2012

David Beckham may be on another planet when it comes to his football skills at times but new Manchester United keeper Ricardo Lopez has bizarrely described the England captain as anything but a Martian.

The former Real Valladolid player has also revealed he is not scared of Roy Keane.

Ricardo said: "I can't describe how it feels to have signed for Manchester United. It was great to meet the players.

"David Beckham wished me luck when we were in the dressing room. I found him to be very normal, very human. He's not a Martian like people say! I congratulated him on his newborn son and he congratulated me on my signing.

"Roy Keane was also very kind to me. He doesn't frighten me. When I arrived in the changing room, he asked me: 'Happy?' And I answered: 'Happy.' I don't know him well, but I think every person is different."

Ricardo is competing with Fabien Barthez and Roy Carroll for the first choice spot at Old Trafford.

"I'm a professional and I will play wherever Sir Alex Ferguson tells me," he said. "If I have to be on the bench I'll do it the best I can. If I can play, I promise the supporters I'll not let them down."
