Referee will not report Spurs fans

Referee Jeff Winter will not report Tottenham fans or players for incidents in Saturday's stormy derby against Arsenal.

The Football Association is waiting for Winter's report before deciding whether to take action.

Home fans hurled a beer bottle and a cup of tea at Sol Campbell and there was a clash in the tunnel between Spurs captain Teddy Sheringham and his Arsenal counterpart Patrick Vieira.

But the referee told Standard Sport today: "I did not see the tunnel incident and have no knowledge of a beer bottle being thrown at Campbell on the pitch. I can tell you that neither matter will be included in my report."

Tottenham vice-chairman David Buchler also insisted today that the club will resist any attempt by the FA to hold them responsible for attacks on the Arsenal team coach.

The departing coach was showered with glasses and bottles, allegedly thrown by fans from the garden of a pub, but Buchler says Spurs cannot be held accountable for property not owned by the club.

He said: "If the bus was ambushed, it is appalling, but it is a matter for the police."

Meanwhile Martin Keown could miss Arsenal's Champions League clash against Deportivo La Coruna in Spain on Wednesday because of a rib injury.
