Reds' revenge mission

Liverpool want to wipe away the memory of their most shattering public humiliation of the season when they face Arsenal in the Carling Cup quarter-finals at Anfield.

Early last month Liverpool were embarrassingly out-played in the 3-0 Premier League defeat at the Emirates Stadium and now Liverpool would dearly like some revenge over the Gunners on Tuesday night.

"We know Arsenal are a good team, we lost 3-0 to them in the league there earlier in the season," said manager Rafael Benitez. "We have not forgotten that and want to win this game - as we do every one."

Since the Arsenal loss much has changed for Liverpool, whose only defeat in eight matches is the Champions League dead rubber against Galatasaray when they intentionally fielded a weakened side in Istanbul.

They have kept seven clean sheets during that run, climbing to third in the Premiership as a result.

Benitez will shuffle his squad and expects Arsenal to do the same ahead of the testing festive programme.

"Arsenal have a lot of good young players that they paid big money for and their quality is good, so whatever team they put out we know it will be difficult," added the Liverpool boss.

"The Carling Cup may be fourth behind the Premiership, Champions League and FA Cup but it is an opportunity to win another trophy. We played in the final two years ago and want to do that again if possible."

Benitez will consider using the likes of Robbie Fowler, Luis Garcia, Peter Crouch and Fabio Aurelio, none of whom started Saturday's win at Charlton.

He said: "It is clear we will need to change some players, but I do not know how many. We need to use different players because you cannot play with the same ones in every competition, especially at Christmas."
