Ramos is a winner and I can't wait to start working with him - Spurs skipper gets behind the new boss

Tottenham striker Robbie Keane today called on his team-mates to 'stand up and be counted' for Juande Ramos, who he says has already brought a 'trophy winning presence' to the dressing room.

Ramos met the Spurs players after watching yesterday's disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Blackburn alongside chairman Daniel Levy and, although it was only a brief introduction, Keane admits he was immediately impressed with the Spaniard.

"He has a presence about him because of what he has done before and what he has achieved," said Keane.

"I am looking forward to working with him. His record speaks for itself so if he can bring the success that he brought to Sevilla then I don't think anyone will complain."

That kind of success, which included successive UEFA Cup wins, seems a long way off after Christopher Samba's last-gasp winner condemned Spurs to their sixth defeat in 11 Premier League games and left them with the worst home defensive record in the division.

"It's the same old story again — the lads are gutted in there," said Keane, who scored Tottenham's only goal from the penalty spot before Benni McCarthy equalised.

"We are not far off producing but we seem a million miles away because we keep losing."

Ramos will take charge of his first training session this morning and chairman Levy is keen to consign the Jol saga to history. He confessed in an open letter to fans on the club's website that he regretted the way the Dutchman was sacked.

The statement read: "Several events clearly did not happen as we all would have wished and I am the first to admit that things could have been handled differently and better.

"The first time Martin and I met to discuss his position was after the match, there were no discussions prior and there were none of the reported disagreements."
