£78m assault on World Cup

English Rugby today revealed a £78 million plan designed to ensure victory at the 2007 World Cup.

The funding will be pumped into academies based primarily at the 12 Premiership clubs and has been backed by Sport England, who are putting in £8m.

Chris Spice, the RFU's performance director, said: "We have rattled a few cages in the Southern Hemisphere with this plan."
