President sacks every single player

13 April 2012

It is usually the manager who gets the chop if his team fails - but the president of Brazilian side Ceara has vowed to sack all 25 of the club's players after they missed out on the chance of promotion to the top flight.

Club president Alexandre Frota said: "The players have contracts until 31 December but as they didn't win a thing they will be fired."

Ceara finished the first stage of the Second Division tournament in 13th position but only the top eight have a chance of going up.

To raise money to pay off the players, Ceara organised a raffle of an apartment.

Tickets cost £100 and the club expect to raise around £50,000.

Frota also announced he will not continue as the team president next year.

He said: "I will never get into football again.

"My only regret I didn't lose enough weight to be able to go on the pitch and score the goals these players didn't score."
