Petit and Jimmy set for Sunday service

Chelsea hope to have striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and French midfielder Emmanuel Petit back in contention for Sunday's London Premiership derby against West Ham.

Hasselbaink has missed two matches with a back problem and Petit has been out for six games with an ankle injury.

Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri said: "I hope Jimmy will be ready for Sunday and also Manny could be back."

West Ham, meanwhile, are banking on their young midfielder Michael Carrick being ready to return following a knee injury. Carrick strained knee ligaments against Liverpool three weeks ago, but manager Glenn Roeder said: "Michael has been stepping up his work this week and so far he has suffered no reaction.

"He won't play if he is not ready but, with John Moncur suspended for two matches, it would be good to have him back."

But West Ham's new signing, Slovakian defender Vladimir Labant, will not be included in the squad for Sunday.

Roeder said: "Vladimir has just come off his winter break with Sparta Prague and took a threeweek-break from football. He's lost some fitness as a result and we have been giving him extra work this week.

"If all goes well he will be included in the squad for the FA Cup tie at Stamford Bridge in a week's time."

The future of Paolo Di Canio, however, remains uncertain. Manchester United, who have had one offer of £2.5 million for the Italian rejected, have yet to return with an improved bid.

Roeder said: "Paolo has been training really well this week and, as it stands at the moment, it is my intention to play him."
