Paul Lawrie was today hoping a lengthy break and a session with sports psychologist Bob Rotella would boost his chances of a second Major.

Lawrie — bidding to claim a first Green Jacket on the 25th anniversary of fellow Scot Sandy Lyle’s triumph — hasn’t played competitively since March 10.

But the former Open champion (right) said: “I think the wee break is just what I needed. I had a wee chat with Bob Rotella and he said it might be the best thing.

“It’s not lie on the couch, deep stuff. We have a laugh and a joke, he tells a few stories and then off we go.

“Maybe there is a tendency to over-prepare for Majors, I don’t know. I’m not going to stand here and say I feel great and I’m going to have a chance to win but I feel good.”
