Former world champion Ricky Hatton discusses battle with his demons: 'Boxing is the hardest game in the world but nothing is harder than life'

Former world champion Ricky Hatton has opened up about his battles with depression, drink, drugs and suicide attempts.

The 37-year-old, who is regarded is one of British boxing's greats, helped launch Men's Health magazine's 'Mend the Gap' campaign, which aims to change the perception of mental health.

Hatton features in a video produced by Silverfish Media and urges men to open up and talk about their problems rather than struggle on alone.

"I was fearless - I'd fight anybody. I really would. I'd take on anybody.

"Boxing is the hardest game in the world. But nothing is harder than life and life hits us hard sometimes.

"People see you on the TV screen knocking people out and think 'what has he got to worry about?' Depression, drinking, drugs, I was a time bomb waiting to happen."
