O'Neill guides Lakers to third straight title

13 April 2012

The strength of Shaquille O'Neal and the astute coaching of Phil Jackson guided the LA Lakers to their third straight NBA title.

O'Neal starred in a 113-107 victory over the New Jersey Nets that completed a 4-0 whitewash in the best-ofseven Finals series.

Called "a monster" by New Jersey coach Byron Scott, the 7ft 1in, 350lb O'Neal terrorised the Nets throughout the series, collecting 34 points and 10 rebounds in the final game.

He averaged 36.3 points and 12.3 rebounds as he demoralised every defence thrown at him to win his third straight NBA Finals Most Valuable Player award.
