Nugent 'not for sale'

12 April 2012

Preston chairman Derek Shaw insists top scorer David Nugent "is not for sale" in the January transfer window.

The England Under-21s international has attracted the attention of several Barclays Premiership clubs, including Sheffield United and Everton.

But with Preston sitting third in the Coca-Cola Championship, three points adrift of an automatic promotion spot, Shaw is determined to hang on to his prize asset. He told his club's official website, www.pnefc.co.uk: "We have 19 cup finals left, and David Nugent is not for sale. We want to get to the Premier League."

Shaw added: "David Nugent has been tremendous for us, and I am sure he will play in the Premier League. But we want that to be with Preston North End and we do not want to sell him.

"He will be a big player for us in these 19 cup finals, and we will assess the situation again after that."
