No action against Henry

13 April 2012

The Football Association confirmed no action would be taken against Thierry Henry following the Arsenal striker's alleged use of an elbow on Charlton midfielder John Robinson.

The clash was not seen by referee Steve Dunn during the Gunners' 3-0 win at The Valley last Saturday. However, the FA subsequently announced they would "investigate the incident further", despite simultaneously announcing David Beckham would not face any action for his apparent use of the elbow on Leeds' Lee Bowyer.

A statement on the FA website, www.thefa.com, read: "We can confirm that, having given the incident due consideration, the FA have decided that no action will be taken against Arsenal's Thierry Henry following an alleged use of the elbow during the Charlton v Arsenal game on Saturday."

It continued: "The matter has not been referred to the video advisory panel and the investigation is now closed."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was angered that Henry's case might have been sent to a video advisory panel while no action was taken over Beckham, whose challenge was seen by referee Jeff Winter - he gave a free-kick to Leeds.

Wenger said: "If the whole country is convinced that Beckham made an elbow and you cannot overrule it, is that right or not?

"If Beckham has used an elbow and you show the evidence to the referee, do you think he'll say that he has seen it? No, he will say that he hasn't seen it."

Henry was also defended by Robinson, who claimed: "I think the FA should get on with something else and maybe not worry about an incident that wasn't there."

The Frenchman himself explained: "All I did was push back with my arm because my shirt was being pulled. If I touched him at all it was very slightly on the top of his shoulder. But there was no intention, I cannot stress that enough."
