New Zealand vs France: Relive the most epic Rugby World Cup matches between the two nations

New Zealand and France prepare to face each other in the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday evening following a rich history of previous battles between the two nations.

There have been no less than six meetings between the All Blacks and Les Bleus in the competition since 1987, with New Zealand having gotten the better of those matches.

The All Blacks first beat France 29-9 in the final in 1987 at Eden Park before the clash between the two nations at Twickenham in the 1999 World Cup semi-final saw Les Bleus get their revenge for the loss 12 years earlier - a victory that was dubbed by commentators as the biggest upset in the whole of Rugby World Cup history.

But when New Zealand took on France four years later in the bronze final match, it was the All Blacks who reigned victorious by a clear margin.

A quarter-final meeting at the next World Cup followed - which France secured a win in - before the French suffered heartbreak in the 2011 Rugby World Cup final when they narrowly lost 8-7 to New Zealand.
