Murray masterful in Paris

12 April 2012

Andy Murray cruised into the last 16 of the Paris Masters with a 7-5 6-0 victory over Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela.

The 19-year-old British number one, ranked 19th in the world, will take on Dominik Hrbaty next in a tournament lacking five of the world's top six players.

Roger Federer declared himself too tired to compete, Rafael Nadal and David Nalbandian are injured while Andy Roddick and Ivan Ljubicic withdrew because their places in the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai are already assured.

World number 33 Chela seized the initiative when he broke in the third game and the South American denied Murray the chance of a break back on three occasions in game four.

The 19-year-old Scot raced into a 40-0 lead on the Chela serve in the eighth game and converted the last of his three break chances to level the scores at 4-4.

He held on serve and then almost completed a quick turnaround but Chela saved two set points to make it 5-5. Murray averted the tie-break by breaking again in game 12 to take the first set 7-5.

He then took firm control in the second set, winning three times on the Chela serve to gain emphatic revenge for the defeat he suffered in the first round of this year's Australian Open.
