Murray hits back to sink Schuettler

Andy Murray advanced the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open on Wednesday by coming from a set down to beat Rainer Schuettler.

The third-seeded Scot recorded a 1-6 6-0 6-1 triumph over the German wildcard to advance in Doha, where he has unfinished business. Murray reached the final in his debut here last season before falling to Ivan Ljubicic.

Despite a lacklustre first set against Schuettler, the 20-year-old appears to have his sights set on another appearance in the championship match. He could see some familiar faces along the way.

Should each player win his respective quarter-final match, Murray and top seed Nikolay Davydenko will square off in the semi-finals here for the second consecutive season. The fourth-seeded Ljubicic, meanwhile, remains alive in the bottom of the draw.

Before Murray entertains thoughts of those potential match-ups, he will first need to dispose of Sweden's Thomas Johansson in the round of eight.

Davydenko advanced on Wednesday with a 6-3 6-3 win over Frenchman Fabrice Santoro to set up a quarter-final clash with compatriot Dmitry Tursunov.

The eighth-seeded Tursunov advanced via walkover when Germany's Nicolas Kiefer withdrew due to a shoulder injury.

Ljubicic was also a walkover winner on Wednesday as Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic pulled out of their match due to illness.

The highest remaining seed in the bottom of the draw is Ljubicic's quarter-final opponent, number six Philipp Kohlschreiber, who defeated Filippo Volandri 6-4 6-1.

A day after upsetting number two seed Tommy Robredo in the opening round, Agustin Calleri kept rolling with a 6-3 6-1 win over Korea's Hyung-Taik Lee. The unseeded Argentinian will face Stanislas Wawrinka in the last eight.
